Tom Searles, the founder and president, provides oversite of all US client implementations of ANSYS's GRANTA MI and other software tools developed by MDMi. Tom works with the team to develop the best possible solution for clients managing their own materials information. Prior to starting MDMi in 2010, Tom spent 5 years at Rolls-Royce in the materials engineering department where he helped lead a global collaborative team on process improvements related to materials data.
Tom is a true Buckeye, he grew up in Grove City, Ohio, and graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) in 2002 and an M.S. in MSE in 2005. Tom spent 5 years in The Ohio State University Marching Band (TBDBITL) as a sousaphone player and had the honor of dotting-the-i in Script Ohio at the Ohio State vs. University of Michigan game in 2000. Tom also completed his MBA from Indiana University in 2009.
In his spare time, Tom enjoys spending time with his wife, son, daughter, and their pet dogs and cats; household projects, and tinkering with gadgets and old cars. Tom believes in constant self-improvement, hard work, and finding one’s passions. Tom’s coworkers would say he enjoys coming up with odd new inventions.
